After 13 issues, the Eclipse Comics super-hero book The New Wave was brought to an abrupt close. But to tie up all of the loose ends and properly send the team riding off into the sunset, the group was brought back for one final adventure in a two-issue, 3-D mini-series titled The New Waves Versus The Volunteers.

Unlike most super-hero teams, the title’s main characters were thrust together through an unintentional involvement in a government conspiracy. Over the course of the series, the characters went from being six complete—very individual—strangers to friends who could depend on each other. Time and time again, they put their lives on the line for each other in unselfish fashion. They considered themselves more of a family than a team. In this final installment, the group squared off against The Volunteers, an organization of super-powered NSA agents. Together they finally managed to bring an end—through mutual extortion, of course—to their life on the run from the government.
