This black-and-white series is a showcase for the writings of Andrew Vachss. Hard Looks is an anthology comic that focuses on the darker things in life: shady alleyways and pit bull fights, secret deals, psychopaths, and cold-blooded murders.

The ten issues of Hard Looks kick off with an adaptation of a story that first appeared in “A Matter Of Crime Vol. III.” In “Dumping Ground,” a pair of police officers who, it seems, are doing a routine check of a deserted area are, in fact, dumping the bodies of women whom they have sexually abused and murdered. The pair think they can never be caught because the place where they dump the bodies is supposedly toxic, so nobody dares to explore. They assume the place is not truly dangerous because a pack of wild dogs lives there, apparently unaffected. The cops made a deadly mistake, however, in assuming that because dogs live there, it would be safe for them…
