Sexploitation Cinema: A Cartoon History

    (Re-Visionary, 1998)
™ and ©1998 Re-Visionary Press

Carnal Comics’ quest to document the world of erotic film continues with this exploration of the early days of the form. The two issues cast a wide net to include everything from Maureen O’Sullivan’s controversial “Tarzan” costumes, to the hellions of “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!”

Less a formal comic than a report skipping back and forth through time, the book uses interview excerpts and fictionalized recreations as it scans highlights of sexual cinema. The astounding collection of true porn factoids hold the most interesting tidbits, and reprinting several pages of classic “naughty movie” posters helps push the point home: sex is not limited to porn.

Contributors include writers Spike Steffenhagen and Jay Allen Sanford, with art by Batman and Green Arrow artist Kevin Breyfogle. It’s available with two covers: one painted by Star Wars artist Jamie Murray, another a nude photo of an erotic actress. Both are a lot more titillating than the contents.
