Binky’s Buddies

DC’s answer to Archie features similar characters and an artist that eventually became the featured artist on the main Archie title, Stan Goldberg. This title was a spin-off of the long-running Leave it to Binky, which started life as a not-so-similar teen title as Archie.

But when Archie started achieving tremendous success on the pop charts (“Sugar, Sugar”) and on television (“Everything’s Archie”), both Marvel and DC expanded their teen title lines to reflect this newfound popularity, and changed their character design to emulate the “Archie” style. Unfortunately, the popularity did not rub off very much and these titles were all canceled within the next couple of years.
