Devastator

Veteran comics writer James D. Hudnall (ESPers, Chiller) began writing Devastator as a first effort at screenwriting in 1991. It was only much later, in 1997, that the first draft was completed, and was shown to his friend Greg Horn. Together, they agreed to adapt the screenplay to comics form.

The story takes place in the near future, where advances in cyber technology gave rise to the neural interface: a plug-in socket for people’s minds, located at the back of their necks. Originally, it was used for medical uses, or to provide instant proficiency in a number of skills. Soon, however, it was used to provide mood-altering experiences, and a trade arose in illicit “E-Drugs.” With the police closing in on the dealers, one cartel devised a “Devastator” chip which would turn an innocent—in this case, a former cop named John Blake—into a mindless assassin with super-powers…right before it killed him.
