Spider-Man/Punisher: Family Plot

    (Marvel, 1996)
™ and ©1996 Marvel Entertainment Group

This two-issue limited series has story angles galore. The Punisher (yes, the famous vigilante) has inexplicably become the prospective don of the Geracis, a New York crime family. Ben Reilly (the clone of Peter Parker) is now wearing the spandex tights of Spider-Man. They cross paths when Spider-Man intervened to stop mob retaliation after members of a rival family tried to kill the current head of the Geraci family. The Geracis decide it is a matter of honor that the Punisher must kill Spider-Man for denying them their vengeance.

But for all the trappings, this story is not about the two costumed heroes at all. It’s really about a crook named Marlowe, a petty crook who wants to make it into the big time. By killing Don Geraci, his boss Tombstone stands to take over. He hopes to move up with him. But when such a mixed-up scenario is involved, all this would-be “family man” can hope for is a family plot in the graveyard.
