Due to legal imbroglios, Alan Moore and Alan Davis’ Captain Britain stories, done for various British comics magazines such as The Mighty World of Marvel, had never been reprinted until this 1995 series. The stories were originally produced in 1982 through 1984, and were done at the earliest part of Moore’s and Davis’ careers. The series shows the development of Davis’ art, and Moore delivered a tight, rollicking super-hero adventure. The series introduced many characters that later became important to Excalibur continuity, such as Meggan, Saturnyne, Roma, and the Crazy Gang.

Moore’s inventiveness and solid scripting throughout provides for an action-packed and compelling super-hero story. A fine example of what genre comics can be, as long as decent writing values are maintained.
