Apama: The Undiscovered Animal is an indie superhero comic created by Ted Sikora, Milo Miller, and Benito Gallego. It follows Iliya Zjarsky, a down‑on‑his‑luck Hungarian ice cream truck driver in Cleveland, who stumbles upon a mysterious cave and discovers the spirit of the mythical Apama — a creature said to be the most powerful animal mankind has never known. By unlocking its powers through an ancient pose and donning a strange suit, Iliya becomes Apama, a reluctant and unconventional hero navigating bizarre villains, surreal adventures, and the gritty streets of Cleveland.

The series blends retro superhero nostalgia with offbeat humor and social commentary, often poking fun at the tropes of mainstream comics while carving out its own unique mythology. Apama’s adventures pit him against eccentric foes and strange scenarios, but at its core the comic explores themes of identity, perseverance, and the absurdity of modern life. Notably, many of the comic book covers are designed with a distinct early Marvel Comics style look‑and‑feel, evoking the bold colors, dynamic layouts, and vintage energy of Silver Age superhero art.
