In 2012, grain blight caused worldwide famine. In America, this was followed by civil war. Nuclear civil war. The surviving towns built heavily defended walls to keep out scavengers, and the world descended into a state of utter lawlessness. Cities became war zones and roads became gauntlets, as violent thugs attacked anyone in their path.

Chevy Vasquez’s parents had been killed in such an attack while driving from blight-stricken Oklahoma to Texas. Only Chevy survived. Now grown, Chevy is a car warrior who drives a heavily armed vehicle in gladiatorial bouts staged for the sake of entertainment. He was considered one of the best, but still he led an empty life—until he heard about Fort Delorean and their viral-resistant grain. The first driver who could transport a carload across the 500 miles of wasteland between Fort Delorean and Lansing would be rich beyond measure—and might give the world a new chance at life.
