The World of Narue is not our own. In yet another riff on the Normal–Boy–Meets–Otherworldly–Girl formula, The World of Narue is about an extraterrestrial schoolgirl, Narue, who falls in love with an anime fan, Kazuto. Narue is the perfect sci-fi fantasy, a cute lass with a big heart and extraordinary abilities. Creator Tomohiro Marukawa doesn’t add any surprise twists to the conventional premise, and there are numerous clichés such as Kazuto’s obligatory nose bleeds whenever he’s turned-on and various panty shots that are to be expected in this genre. Nevertheless, the series was hugely successful in Japan.
