Exciting War

The Korean War in the early 1950s was not the finest hour of the U.S. military, but it did provide the backdrop for a new generation of war comics that were growing stale rehashing the battle tales of World War II. Exciting War drew its stories exclusively from the Korean conflict, and had an air of authenticity, indicating that at least one of the creators was a combat veteran.

The stories were typically flag-waving glorifications of courage under fire, but were told with an intensity and attention to detail that went beyond simple propaganda. Exciting War did not feature any continuing characters; issues were filled with several eight-page features like “Stand…Or Die!” and “G.I. General.”
