Greatest 1950S Stories Ever Told

It was a decade of change. In that decade, television and censorship almost wiped out a the comic book medium. But it was also a decade of experimentalism where only the strongest survived and new ideas were tried in order to keep comics alive.

It worked. And this book highlights some of the tales from that time

Superman himself led the way, by moving into television and turning television watchers into comic book readers. Old heroes were dusted off and revamped. They paved the way for the Silver Age of comics which reached new heights in the 1960s. Romance stories and patriotic heroes overcame McCarthyism and fears of juvenile delinquency. Talking animals would later create animated series of their own. Sgt. Rock teamed with Easy Company and the Challengers challenged the unknown. Cowboys and science found niches when everyone thought all was lost only a few years before. Censorship turned into self-regulation that would cause the industry to survive into the next millennium and, hopefully, beyond.
