Before she became Oracle, the information guru of the DC Universe, Barbara Gordon fought alongside Batman as Batgirl. But that was also before she was crippled by the madman known as the Joker (Batman: The Killing Joke, 1988). Now, years later, Barbara acts as mentor and friend to a new Batgirl, Cassandra Cain.

When she relates the tale of the first time she tackled the Joker solo (Batman: Batgirl, 1997), Barbara doesn’t dream of the consequences her story will have on her young protégé. To test herself against the Clown Prince of Crime, Cassandra breaks the maniac out of Arkham Asylum. But can her ability to sense the actions of her opponents through their body language help Batgirl against a foe whose every movement is insanity itself?

This one-shot guest-stars Black Canary and Batman, and features art by Bill Sienkiewicz.
