Bizarre, sophomoric humor characterizes this collection of parodies and unusual strips. The cover pokes fun at a vintage issue of Mad, but the E.C. Comics tributes don’t end there: Terry Beatty’s “Bad Reception” duplicates the look and feel of E.C. Comics’ science fiction classics. Mod is a mish-mash of styles. Although 60s beach movies are jokingly updated with a punk rock attitude on “Horror at B-Movie Beach,” Mod can’t be described as a parody book. Early work from Flaming Carrot creator Bob Burden might be of interest to collectors.
