Peter Cannon-Thunderbolt

    (DC, 1992-1993)
™ and ©1992 DC Comics, Inc.

Richard Cannon and his wife were aid workers in Tibet during the time of the Communist takeover. As Americans, their lives were in danger from the Communists, so Richard took refuge with his pregnant wife in a monastery. Richard’s wife died in giving birth to their son Peter, and Richard died soon afterward from an illness. The boy was raised by the monks who thought he might be the reincarnation of their protector and hero Varja. As it turned out, the monks may have been right.

They trained Peter to use his body and mind to perfection. This combination turned Peter into the swift and powerful Thunderbolt. Now living in London, he is a reluctant hero, but one who conquers his fears in order to save the day.

Originally a Charlton character, Thunderbolt made the transition to DC along with Captain Atom, the Question, and Blue Beetle in Crisis on Infinite Earths #6.
