Space Ark

This funny animal series from Bill Black’s AC Comics features a cast of animated short-inspired characters in Star Trek-like adventures. Led by a fearless fox named Captain Stone, the crew of the U.S.S. Space Ark journey about the universe “help(ing) make the galaxy a safer and happier place—for the time being.” Space Ark is obviously an homage to the cartoons of the 1930s–1950s—the first issue is even dedicated to animation legend Bob Clampett (Sylvester and Tweety)—but, without the benefit of moving pictures, the stories fall a bit flat and the jokes, while occasionally cute, lack a certain “zing”…maybe because there’s no Mel Blanc or June Foray to give them life.
