Independent filmmaker and comic book fan Kevin Smith got a lot of buzz going with the release of Clerks. This film was an irreverent look at the so-called lives of a pair of clerks at a convenience store and the adjoining video rental outlet. The dull, mind-numbing work is punctuated by customers who range from creepy to partially insane. For laughs, video store clerk Randy delights in making up ways to torture the customers, such as ignoring the posted store hours, or making customers battle for the last copy of The Mighty Ducks.

Clerks: The Comic Book, is a terribly funny continuation of the movie. Here, Randy convinces his fellow clerk to join with him in trying to corner the market on Star Wars toys. It’s rude, full of in-jokes, and all the funnier for the way it nails the fanboyish craziness surrounding the comic and toy markets.
