A century into the future, the Marvel Universe is a very different place. Having found a way to suppress mutant abilities, the government rules with an iron grip—quite literally, as a sentinel stands guard at every corner. Heroes and mutants, though beaten down, have not died out completely, however. Reed Richards, in a robotic body, lives on, still trying to help people and make the world a better place. At his side is a young mutant, Chad Channing, who the former Mr. Fantastic both trains and tries to impress upon what it means to be a hero. But it’s understandable that Chad has a hard time focusing on his training, what with the distractions of family, friends, and schoolwork to worry about.

Although the series is set in the future, many of the themes involving a young misfit’s desire to fit in and lead a normal life are strictly old–school Marvel.
