Wyatt Earp: Dodge City
(Moonstone, 2005)
™ and © 2005 Moonstone
The legend of Wyatt Earp will never die. He has been the focus of many films, books, documentaries, and comic books. Wyatt Earp: Dodge City is the latest addition to the comic book history that Stan Lee and Dick Ayers contributed to more than 50 years ago. Chuck Dixon has done a masterful job introducing Wyatt to Dodge City and the men who oppose the law. Doc Holliday, as well as Nick Hardesty and the drovers who work for him, inhabit the lawless town and are soon to meet a new sort of lawman. Artwise, the book pays tribute to Tombstone. Holliday, Earp, Hardesty, and Doc’s girl come straight out of the film. Hardesty bears an uncanny resemblance to Ringo, both in attitude and appearance—right down to the mousy, spectacled villain, characters from the film live on the page. Intentional? I don’t know. Blurry art reproduction mars the first couple of pages, but #2 should correct that. Buy this one for the story. The art will grow on you.
