Richard Corben’s reputation rests on his artwork, generally enhanced by his unique gloomy coloring style. Seeing his horror stories here in toned black and white is already disappointing, and further despondency ensues regarding the computer art process, which, instead of enhancing, muddies the art altogether. Pity, since from what can be made out, this is prime Corben, and surely he couldn’t have been happy with the final reproduction. The stories are the standard horror stuff that Corben has drawn over the years for Warren and Heavy Metal, fleshed out with the ill-advised inclusion of stories from other Corbenesque artists. Corben completists may well want this, but for the casual fan, there are far better examples of Corben.
