Before the war, Yuta broke a promise that he had made to the girl, Nae Kogure. Smitten by him, Nae made him promise to make her immortal too. Before he left, she promised to wait in Red Valley for him…but he never came back.

As Yuta and Mana wander the country, they travel through the area where that village had been. As Yuta visits the Kogure family shrine, Mana discovered to her great surprise that Nae is still alive!

Mermaid’s Promise is the third installment of the story that began in Mermaid Forest, Rumiko Takahashi’s chilling tale of those who eat the mermaid’s flesh.
