Joe is among a group of intergalactic troubleshooters called the Crushers. After people started migrating to different stars in the 2160s, they were housed in space units, including the Crushers. The Crushers investigate possible dangers to the galaxy, help people in need, and risk their lives to solve problems. Creator Haruka Takachiho’s manga was made into an animated film in 1983. Dirty Pair was also the brainchild of Takachiho, and it has been suggested that Kei from Dirty Pair is the mother of Joe.
