Dune is a science-fiction epic set on the desert planet Arrakis that is the only producer of the spice “melange” in the galaxy. Melange extends life, expands consciousness, and can be used to fold space and time in order to travel to any location without actually moving. In short, this spice is the most precious substance in the universe. As the saying goes, “He who controls the spice controls the universe!”

The empire’s existence relies on spice, and any threat to its flow is a severe threat. The last thing it wanted was war between two houses of Arrakis—or the emergence of a young messiah who could reshape the world.

Director David Lynch brought Dune, a novel by Frank Herbert, to movie-going audiences in 1984. The film starred rock star Sting, Kyle MacLachlan, and Patrick Stewart (“Captain Picard” on Star Trek: The Next Generation).
