Series continues in My Romantic Adventures #68

ACG’s long-running “Romantic Adventures” was by most respects a cookie-cutter affair, full of love-struck damsels trying to catch the eye of the Man They Love. Even then, Ogden Whitney (creator of Herbie) occasionally appeared to throw his off-kilter personality into the mix. The result were stories like “We Had to be Practical!” wherein two lower-class lovers decide to set their own feelings aside to pursue wealthier matches for themselves.

Other stories, such as “School for Romance,” have an almost sadistic streak, with its tale of a teacher who was persecuted daily by the stuffy principal. She later discovered that the principal was a young man in disguise, who covered up his own insecurities by affecting a harsh attitude and style of dress. Naturally, he “had loved her since he first laid eyes on her.”
