The New Kids on the Block: NKOTB

This Boston-based musical group, popular in the 80’s and early 90’s, was one of the first in the seemingly endless wave of “Boy Bands,” teen heartthrobs that had young girls screaming and swooning all across the world. Massive marketing efforts aimed at pre-teen fans helped make the New Kids celebrity sensations, and fictionalizing their lives in comic books was part of that strategy.

This series lasted for six issues, and featured the work of long-time Harvey artist Ernie Colón. There were also several one-shots starring Joe, Danny, Jonathan, Donnie and Jordan. An interesting bit of trivia, for fans who thrive on that, is that Donnie is also the brother of Mark Wahlberg, another popular teen singer and accomplished movie star.
