Dr. Atomic
(Last Gasp, 1972-1981)
™ and ©1972 Karry S, Tidd
Dr. Otto Atomic, the Dope Chemist follows the motto “better living through chemistry” to the letter. This title was published by Eco-Press located in Berkeley, California which was one of the definitive flash points during the protest movement. There is definitely an underground feel to this title with its cheap paper, adult language and anti-establishment theme. Neighbors such as the Yippie Billy Kropotkin and the conservative Mr. Henry (call me Hank) Gross attempt to recruit the good doctor to their cause without success. The doctor is more concerned with finding a place where peace and quiet are in long supply than listening to political rhetoric. It’s all here: counterculture, Vietnam, Air America and more. It’s a stroll down Memory Lane so wear the bell-bottomed jeans, wave the ecology flags and flash the peace sign.
