Daktari

Marshall Thompson played a veterinarian running an animal study center with his family in Africa in this 1966-1969 television series, that was a spin-off from the 1965 feature film Clarence, the Cross-Eyed Lion. A cross-eyed lion and a chimp aided the family. Pretty syrupy stuff, but also quite successful family entertainment for its time… and it had quite a nifty theme song! Most of the storylines revolved around protecting the wildlife of the local game reserve from poachers and similar invaders.

Incidentally, “daktari” is a Swahili word meaning “doctor.”
