To the adults around them, these kids appear to be no more than a few years old at most, talking mostly in nonsensical babble. Rugrats, however, takes you into the world as the toddlers see it. This accounts for a great deal of the charm of this series, since we simultaneously get to laugh at the kids’ childish antics, and revel in their wide-eyed view of the world.

A favorite on the cable channel Nickelodeon, Rugrats manages the difficult trick of being both hilarious for kids, and sliding in enough sly adult humor to keep the parents amused as well. Although this comic version omits much of the latter, it’s still enjoyable for a wide range of readers.
