Tyrant (S.R. Bissette’s…)

The Tyrant in the title is a Tyrannosaurus Rex, and this comic is a biography of one particular thunder lizard. No, not a mutant T. Rex with human level intelligence or one somehow alive in the present, but a detailed look at what the life of one of these famous dinosaurs might have been like. The life starts from the very beginning; the title character is not born until the very end of #3, which details its development in the egg.

The writer/artist is Stephen Bissette, known for his art on Swamp Thing and work with the Taboo anthology. Like the Cartoon History of the Universe (but without its humor), Tyrant shows how the comics medium can be used both to tell a good story and to be educational.
