Ninjutsu, Art of the Ninja
(Solson, 1986)
™ and ©1986 Solson Publications, Inc.
In the 1980s, ninjas were hot. Due primarily to the popularity of Frank Miller’s Elektra and to a lesser extent, Ronin, a plethora of martial arts characters appeared on the comics’ racks. Some, like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, were designed as parodies of the genre, but many others, Ninja Elite, Ninjak and Shi for example, took advantage of the martial arts enthusiasm to establish some significant reputations and characters.
Ninjutsu, which is clearly a result of the ninja craze, is not so much a comic book as a mini instruction manual and illustrated glossary of ninja terminology and tools.
