This one-shot acts as a sourcebook for the Age of Apocalypse crossover that ran through the various X-Men titles in early 1995. In that alternate-reality storyline, Professor Charles Xavier was killed before he had the chance to found the X-Men. Instead, a mutant named Apocalypse rose to power and began a bloody “culling” of humanity. His ultimate goal was survival of the fittest—which in his thinking was limited only to mutants.

During the crossover, the titles Excalibur, The Uncanny X-Men, X-Force, X-Factor, Cable, Wolverine, and X-Men (2nd Series) were temporarily discontinued and replaced by alternates (X-Calibre, The Astonishing X-Men, etc.). These detailed the adventures of the X-Men characters in this alternate reality. In some cases, heroes such as Cyclops would become notorious villains. Conversely, many of our X-Men’s enemies would rise to become heroes in this alternate reality. This book helps you keep score.
