Muzzle
(Dead Fish, 1996)
©1996 Dead Fish Entertainment
Muzzle is a mini-comic by John Graves. Like most such mini-comics, it’s a series of photocopied pages, cut in half, and stapled to form a short comic. The first issue includes the rare production touch of a color cover, thanks, no doubt, to the ever-decreasing cost of color photocopying.
The first issue introduces Duckman, a slacker in a funny super-hero suit whose major concerns seem to involve the nightly television schedule. It should probably be noted that this Duckman has no relation whatsoever to the Topps Comics character by the same name. Duckman fills the entire second issue with his adventures about getting a dental exam. Once situated pleasantly in the waiting room (reading Hilites, of course!), he discovers that his dentist is none other than John Ulrich, the long-lost guitarist of Metal Venom. Predictable mayhem ensues, the end result of which is a set of custom braces bearing Ulrich’s “Doctor Slutt” moniker.
