Star Wars: Infinities—A New Hope
(Dark Horse, 2001)
™ and ©2001 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation
In the Star Wars movie released first and subsequently titled, “A New Hope,” Luke Skywalker managed to fire a proton torpedo into an exhaust vent and destroy the Empire’s Death Star. But what if the torpedo detonated prematurely? What if the Death Star survived?
Having mined the Star Wars franchise with everything from movie adaptations to titles that are only peripherally connected to movie’s universe, Dark Horse took a page from Marvel and DC and published a What If/Elseworlds-type title which postulated an alternate universe.
After the failure to destroy the Death Star, Princess Leia is captured by Darth Vader and made a prisoner of the Empire. Vader demonstrates more than a jailer’s interest in her however, presenting her with Obi-Wan Kenobi’s lightsabre. At his urging, Leia practices with the weapon, and begins to develop her potential…but now in service to the Empire.
