This one-shot comic is about an underground band, Magnesium Arc, on the verge of mainstream stardom. Although Matt Howarth’s story is fiction, Magnesium Arc’s journey from performing in basements to scoring Hollywood movies reflects the rise of alternative rock in the early 90s, when little-known post-punk groups found themselves courted by major labels. However, Howarth isn’t making a statement about the music industry, just showing the ups and downs of being in a band that wasn’t made for mass appeal.
