The Irregulars

Dr. Watson is framed for murder, and, to clear his name, Sherlock Holmes needs the help of The Baker Street Irregulars. But what begins as a hunt for a serial killer takes a supernatural turn, as it’s revealed that it’s all part of Moriarty’s plot to destroy the world. To stop him, the brave, young heroes will have to face the perils of a fantastical Otherworld. There are guest appearances by such characters from the Holmes canon as Miss Irene Adler, Toby (the best tracking dog in London), and even a “crossover” by Professor Challenger (from Doyle’s The Lost World). This one has all the elements of a lively literary fantasy, but it’s delivered in such a trite Hollywood blockbuster way it suggests what readers have here is an illustrated unsold screenplay. Note the way all the Irregulars (including the prerequisite, highly unlikely female member) must each have a trite “character arc,” like leader Higgins, who discovers it was Moriarty who killed his parents. The eccentric art by “Bong” Dazo, however, is not unappealing.
