Broadway Babes
(Avalon, 1998)

The inane adventures of Moronica are detailed in this black-and-white collection reprinting stories dating from 1950 to 1954. Moronica, a very simple-minded young woman, wanders through her life, vexing and perplexing all who are unlucky enough to experience a conversation with her. When she’s running a dog laundry, she tosses a live beagle and a stuffed eagle into a washing machine, resulting in a unique kind of “bird dog.” At the circus, she gets into a fight with a balloon vendor who won’t sell his hat even though it carries a sign that reads “5 cents.” No matter what kind of foolish trouble Moronica gets into, her dumb luck always ensure that she lands on her feet, looking like the only one who really understands her wacky situations.
