This insouciant manga–fied version of the classic fairy tale holds true the original—to a point. A hapless couple gives up their first–born daughter to a wicked enchantress who locks the little girl away in a castle tower. After many years, a handsome prince comes to her rescue. Telling more would give away a surprise ending. The sass and humor characterizing As Told By… Rapunzel is absent in the original fairy tale. Seattle’s NDP Comics aims to put American manga on the map, and this one–shot will be enjoyed by readers who appreciate ambitious, do–it–yourself shoestring comics publishing.
