Funnel Cloud 9 hits the ground running with Genie, one of two inaugural monthly titles. The first issue takes place in three different time periods, leaving the reader wondering (in a good way) where it will go from here. The plot, of course, involves a magic lamp and its genie. However, the story has an interesting spin on the traditional genie legend (or perhaps I’ve watched too many Disney movies with Robin Williams voiceovers) that makes it all the more enjoyable to read. To say more would be to give away far too much in advance. Suffice to say, the story is well–paced and well–drawn and can be enjoyed by all ages of readers. Those comics buffs who enjoy fantasy adventure, especially with a taste of Arabian mysticism, should give Genie a rub to see what’s inside.
