Eureka
(Radio Comix, 2000)
™ and ©2000 Brian Sutton and Mark Moore
“Flying saucers! G-Men! Bikinis!” is the promotional copy for this black-and-white Manga-styled title from independent publisher Radio Comix. Rest assured, this book delivers all the above and more, from frequent helicopter gun battles to the numerous dramatic pinups sprinkled throughout the book by artist Mark Moore. In the anthropomorphized world of Eureka!, alien technology has led to a planet where science is as controversial as religion, where anti-technology Luddites hope to keep alien knowledge from being used in the advancement of mankind (such as it is, given that this is a world peopled by sentient animals). In the midst of this bizarre world is jet-setting government secret agent Nellie (a skunk) who, while protecting Dr. Tyson Abernathy, a member of the prestigious Xenotechnology Research Institute, finds herself held at gunpoint by a Third World generalissimo. And the book hasn’t even gotten to the “Flying Saucers!” part yet. Fantastical fun in the grand Japanese-comic tradition.
