Shanda the Panda

Tired of settling for reading subtitles on Japanese animation? Well, America now has its own manga, such as this delightful series starring a very feminine and anthropomorphic panda bear. She runs a movie theater staffed by a buffalo, a fox, and two dogs, all every bit as human as she is; and rooms with a very self-confident lesbian cricket who tends the bar at a local hangout.

Writer Mike Curtis cites Rumiko Takahashi, creator of Lum Urusei*Yatsura, and Roberta Gregory, writer for Wimmen’s Comix, as his major influences. Add in his experience at Harvey and Disney, and you end up with a humorous comic that adults can truly enjoy.
