More Fun Comics

    (DC, 1936-1947)
™ and ©1946 Detective Comics, Inc.

Continuing from New Fun Comics, More Fun began as a humor comic before it transformed itself into the breeding ground for many of DC’s most stalwart super-heroes. The heroes began with a costumed appearance by Doctor Occult in issue #14. Various Western and other features followed before the undead super-hero the Spectre made his awe-inspiring first appearance with issues #52–53 (following a one-panel cameo preview in #51). Doctor Fate and Congo Bill (the future Congorilla) followed in the next few issues, along with Flash clone Johnny Quick in issue #71. Two issues later, DC cloned Marvel’s Namor in a more friendly manner when they introduced Aquaman. In the same issue, archer Green Arrow and his boy sidekick Speedy were also introduced. Issue #101 saw the debut of Superboy. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there, as super-heroes—and the title—disappeared over the next few years.
