Alan Scott was the original Green Lantern, making his 1940 debut in issue #16 of All-American Comics. Within a year, he had his own book, and a legacy from what would become DC Comics was launched.

Over the decades, the adventures of the Green Lantern Corps has been chronicled by creators ranging from science-fiction author Alfred Bester, who created the Oath, to controversial writer Ron Marz, who turned one of the Lanterns into a raving, murderous psychopath.

This archive edition presents, in primary four-color glory, 23 of the early Lantern tales, filled with punchy plots and gleeful exclamations. Most are drawn by Martin Nodell, who created the character, and written by Bill Finger, who, in addition to contributing to the development of Batman, is widely credited with fleshing out the early Alan Scott. Other featured artists include Sheldon Moldoff, E.E. Hibbard, Irwin Hasen, and Howard Purcell. Behind the scenes is editor Sheldon Mayor, creator of Sugar & Spike.
