The T.HU.N.D.E.R. Agents, (The Higher United Nation Defense Enforcement Reserves), surface once more in this black and white series. The difference in this interpretation is its setting in an alternate future. This version was published with the consent of John Carbonaro, during his legal dispute with former partner, David Singer.

Using the conservative turn in American politics in the 1980 elections, writer Michael Sawyer, forecast a severe isolationist trend that blamed foreign interests for America’s problems. The United Nations was expelled from the U.S. A wave of xenophobia swept the country giving rise to the White Guard, a fascist organization intended to protect the interests of the U.S. from terrorists in the guise of students and scholars. The escalated paranoia resulted in war in the streets among gangs of “patriots” and resident aliens. Into this nationalistic climate, the long-dormant T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents return…sort of.
