At Knox State University, a.k.a “Kaos U,” students can form a cult, genetically tinker with the athletes, or build a time machine. They’ve got to do something extraordinary to graduate.

This four issue series from writer Will Pfeifer and artist Jill Thompson explores how trying to meet the demands of such an unusual curriculum affects the relationship of a group of roommates and friends. Really, what do you do when your girlfriend has turned herself into a goddess as her senior project, and you can’t even come up with an idea? And how bad is it to kill someone who just stepped out of a time machine?

Published in 1999, slight changes to the first issue’s background action in the wake of the Columbine High School killings touched off a minor bit of controversy among fandom, though the creators insisted no act of censorship had been imposed on them from above.
