Fandom Confidential
(Kitchen Sink, 1982)
™ and ©1982 Jim Engel
The creation of writer/artist Jim Engel (Funny Stuff Stocking Stuffer) and writer/artist Chuck Fiala (Looney Tunes), Fandom Confidential was a regular monthly feature in The Comic Reader, a highly regarded magazine for comics fandom. The black-and-white strip was made up of sequential photos in which Engel and Fiala take the comics industry to task and “interview” such luminaries as Superman; Popeye; Alan Light, the founder of The Comics Buyer’s Guide; and the Shadow. This collection offers up a number of hilarious encounters and culminates with several pages of new material in which Engel and Fiala confront the fanboy-mesmerizing power of legendary Uncanny X-Men and Fantastic Four writer/artist John Byrne.
