Judge Dredd: Legends of the Law

In 1994, DC received the rights to begin publishing their own comics featuring Judge Dredd, the legendary futuristic lawman from Britain’s 2000 A.D. In order to avoid having to explain the history of almost a thousand Judge Dredd adventures to American readers, DC decided to move Judge Dredd from the 22nd century to the year 2045—presumably before all the other events of the Judge Dredd continuity had happened.
DC rolled out two new Judge Dredd series in 1994, Judge Dredd (DC), and Judge Dredd: Legends of the Law. Despite the sudden erasure of Dredd history, Legends of the Law intended to focus on the early exploits of Judge Dredd. As such, the series was modeled after Legends of the Dark Knight. To accomplish this task, DC recruited writers John Wagner (co-creator of Judge Dredd) and Alan Grant (a prolific Dredd storyteller for the series 2000 A.D.), along with a rotating team of artists.
