If you think a blend of old-school Marvel Comics meets Hong Kong cinema meets the films of James Singleton sounds a bit overwrought, you’d be right. Before you can lock onto one wild concept, another is introduced, then another, while the scene keeps shifting between a misty mountain retreat to the inner city, with a stopover in Venice. This initial installment is so overstuffed with plot points only the barest glimmer of an actual plot is seen: something about a cosmic McGuffin the forces of good and evil are squabbling over.

But you have to give credit where credit is due; there’s more energy, enthusiasm, and imagination at work here than in half a dozen ’80s toy-revival comics. And, while the art is clearly this comic book’s strong suit, it threatens to be overwhelmed by the over-the-top coloring. Truly creative coloring is to be admired, but, Dude, it’s on 11.
