Comics legend Will Eisner is known to fans primarily through his work, stretching back across more than half a century. But in this autobiographical tale, we learn more about Eisner himself, as he grows up in the early part of the 20th century. And the “heart” of much he recalls from growing up is prejudice. Growing up Jewish, he and his family were ostracized and victimized, and each had to come up with ways of dealing with it. Like most lives, though, there is more here: his relationship with his father; with his best friend; and growing into the man he became.

This lengthy graphic novel, first published in 1990, is presented again 10 years later by DC Comics.
