Archie and Me

At the time this series was launched in 1964, America was at the very end of its conservative, post-war period. Within a few short years, forces as diverse as feminism and the war in Viet Nam would call into question many of the traditional values of American life.

Archie, however, lived in a world of his own. Indeed, a great deal of his appeal lies in the very timelessness of Archie’s good-natured high-school antics. Rest assured that no Archie series would show teens doing anything more risqué than borrowing their dad’s car without permission—no drugs or broken families here. And while Archie and Me was really just another Archie spinoff series from 1964–1987, it sets an interesting counterpoint to the huge societal changes that went on during the same period in the real world.
