Most fans of a certain age will certainly remember the 1960s Speed Racer cartoon series, but not every Speed fan realizes that the character got his start as a comic character by Manga pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida. This series by DC’s Wildstorm imprint strives to present that seminal series in a high-quality format, translated from the original Japanese by Nat Gertler. Here, we meet Speed for the first time, as well as his cast of characters, including the beautiful Trixie, Pops, Spritle and Chim-Chim. Readers are also treated to the first appearance and origin of the mysterious Racer X. If you’ve never read Manga before, this series is great entry-level reading, and a thrill ride that even the passing of four decades can’t diminish.
